Autograph letter signed : Edinburgh, to George Ellis, 1804 June 18.

Sadly reporting the death of his bachelor Uncle (Captain Robert Scott); mentioning that he left "a beautiful little villa" to Scott, but that Scott intends to continue with his Reged plan and to sell the villa "to great advantage." Hoping that Ellis will be able to visit soon; giving instructions for sending Ellis's article (on "Sir Tristrem") to the Edinburgh Review; mentioning the Clerk of Tranent, "Lai le Freine" and the "Seven Wise Masters." Regretting that Ellis was not sent an "uncastrated" copy of "Sir Tristrem" and promising to rectify this; asking whether Douce, Heber, and Park have received theirs; discussing a point of medieval law; reiterating his wish to hear from Ellis soon.
